Unvalidated Ideas #050

Here's a fresh idea you can take out there and validate.
Physical GPU marketplace (πRaw Notes)
I've talked about GPUs and marketplaces before, but now with ML/AI staring us in the face I have a slightly different take on it.
It's hard to compete with providing GPU compute, but the future crop of ML/AI systems will definitely need physical compute hardware.
Compute might be hard to provide but you know what's even harder? The physical world.
This is a sweaty startup. It's not sexy, it will almost certainly require manual work (part of why it can't be automated/will be less appealing to others) -- someone needs to actually test the GPUs, and you'll act as a sort of escrow service which is inherently messy (legal is involved).
All of this sounds hard, but remember that GPUs are a high expense item that both consumers and enterprises want/desperately need, and will for the next 5-20 years at the very least.
Validate as fast as possible. Carrd has insanely good prices, high quality templates, and easy setup.
Try Carrd with my referral code "validate" next time you're ready to validate an idea.
Just having a window into the supply chain is guaranteed to generate opportunity, being a part of the global supply chain for GPUs is obviously much more lucrative.
The idea is simple on the surface:
- Facilitate a sale of a GPU
- Receive the GPU and test it
- Ship out the GPU
- Increase trust scores of sellers (and collect a slight premium)
You can get even lighter by avoiding facilitating the sale, and presenting yourself as GPU sale escrow directly.
Getting out of the specifics, this idea is both good for consumer and enterprise, but building the marketplace is much easier on the consumer side than it is on the enterprise side -- hard to source large lots of CPUs from nowhere.
